Design Dilemma - Melissa's House - Update

Hi Ann,

2_3
            Dining Room

We are working on the paint slowly but we are getting there. I loved the colors and thanks soooo much for your help. We painted the dining room so far. When the Strawberry Malt went up I was thought, “Ohh my gosh, we have a pink dining room and living room!” But then it dried as a more beige color and it goes well with the tile.

Then when we put up the Cafe Miel color and it looked good. We painted the kitchen backsplash also so far and I love that color (we chose Churchill Hotel Maple) – it really brings out the counter top. Next we are going to paint the top of the kitchen and put up the chair rail in the dining room.

I also want to put a black wood dining table in there and a new chandelier.  We didn't know what color to paint the bar so we painted it in Cafe Miel color and it looks good.

I did have a couple of questions though...

A_2 1) Above the kitchen: I am not sure if I should paint the inside wall (4-5 inches) with the kitchen color (Churchill Hotel Maple) or the hallway color (Riviera Dune).

C_2 2) Kitchen to living room: Should we paint the wall with the light switch in the kitchen color (Churchill Hotel Maple) or the front entry room color (Riviera Dune)? And what about the 4-5 inch piece of wall that’s parallel to the kitchen counter?

D_2 3) This illustrates my issue with round corners

E 4) Should we paint the 4-5 inch inside wall the color of the front entry room (Riviera Dune) or living room (Strawberry Malt)? Or should we just paint both rooms in either Strawberry Malt or Riviera Dune to avoid the round corner issue?

H 5) The hallway wall is not straight but I really like the idea of a chair rail and I love those two colors together. Any tips on how to create a straight chair rail?

But once again you don't know how appreciative I am that you were able to help me with this! I can't wait to see how the other colors turn out. Thanks for your help!

Melissa

Color of the Week

  • Star Gazer 4008-8B

Star Gazer is a warm, mid-deep blue that can be used effectively in small doses. This color would look terrific on an accent wall behind a bed. A warm khaki such as Plum Passion or Dry Earth would support this color nicely.
